Showcasing Birds of Australia & The World

Bird Count as of Saturday 24th April, 2010 is (619)

I have decided to set myself a goal of photographing every bird that has appeared on Australian shores and its surrounding Territories. I hope to be able to have done the main body of birds over a period of 5 years, I started in about Jan 2007. From the Systematics and Taxonomy of Australian birds by Christidis and Boles 2008 edition which says there  are 867 species and 33 are on the supplementary list (birds that have been seen here from overseas but not enough to be put on the main list till ratified) which makes a total of 891 species that can be photographed. Of these sadly 16 are extinct from our shores and the chances of photographing the Night Parrot are in a word REMOTE, but I will be happy if I can get to 700 in that 5 years and still have a wife!
